"Variations Too" is a set of four motorized robotic arms which perform a
variety of motions articulated in a single plane. The arms move in response
to the presence and distance of viewers. It is a preliminary study for
"Variations For",
an installation of five industrial robot arms that can
teach themselves to dance together -- as opposed to many robots that
just fight amongst themselves.
The title is a pun on "Variations IV", John Cage's 1963 aleatoric
composition, first recorded in Los Angeles, CA.
VFor will probably never be implemented,
therefore VToo may be the last of its kind.
